About the Role
An established, employee-owned structural engineering and architecture consulting firm is seeking a Structural Engineer to join its growing New York City team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with experience in existing buildings, restoration, and rehabilitation who enjoys leading projects from concept through construction while working directly with clients, architects, and contractors.
You'll work on a diverse portfolio of projects including façade restorations, adaptive reuse developments, structural rehabilitation, and building upgrades across some of New York City's most recognizable buildings.
Responsibilities
- Lead structural engineering projects focused on existing buildings, repairs, renovations, and adaptive reuse.
- Perform structural analysis and design for concrete, steel, masonry, timber, foundations, and existing structural systems.
- Prepare and review structural calculations, construction documents, technical specifications, and bid packages.
- Develop technical reports, repair recommendations, proposals, and engineering assessments.
- Coordinate directly with clients, contractors, architects, and regulatory agencies throughout all project phases.
- Perform site investigations and structural inspections to evaluate existing conditions.
- Provide construction administration including RFIs, submittal reviews, payment applications, change orders, and field observations.
- Utilize Revit and structural analysis software to develop design solutions.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and multiple concurrent assignments.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical oversight throughout project delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, or actively working toward licensure.
- 5+ years of structural engineering experience with a focus on existing buildings, restoration, rehabilitation, or building design.
- Experience managing structural engineering projects from design through construction.
- Strong understanding of New York City Building Codes and structural design standards.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and client-facing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, fast-paced consulting environment.
