Geotechnical Engineer

Seeking a Geotechnical Engineer based in New York City. The engineer will have the opportunity to work in an environment of encouragement and collaboration to help shape the future of our communities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide geotechnical oversight for subsurface investigations, including borings, test pits, and cone penetration testing (CPT), along with detailed field logging and documentation.
  • Develop and coordinate laboratory and field testing programs to support geotechnical evaluations and design recommendations.
  • Prepare technical engineering reports, including interpretation of field and laboratory data, engineering calculations, and supporting figures and drawings.
  • Perform geotechnical analyses related to slope stability, settlement and consolidation, deep foundation systems, mat foundations, ground improvement methods, soil liquefaction, and related earth support systems.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, supporting project coordination, scheduling, and technical delivery.
  • Apply practical knowledge of foundation construction and geotechnical engineering practices within complex urban environments.
  • Provide construction-phase field oversight and Special Inspection services for subgrade evaluations, controlled fill placement and density testing, deep foundation installation, and excavation support systems. Experience with underpinning and support of excavation (SOE) systems is highly desirable.
  • New York City project experience and familiarity with local construction practices, agencies, and site conditions is considered a strong advantage.

Requirements:

  • 8-12 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (a master’s degree with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering is a plus).
  • Engineer-In-Training Certificate 
  • NYS PE licensure preferred, PE licensure in other states will be required to obtain.
  • Required to travel to work sites in New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, Connecticut and New Jersey.
  • OSHA 10-hr or 40-hour HAZWOPER training a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience using commercial geotechnical software (e.g., AutoCAD, gINT, APile, LPile, All Pile, GRL WEAP, Slide, CT Shoring Suite, PLAXIS, Shake 2000, and other advanced modelling programs a plus.
