Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and driven Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to join the Building Engineering Division - Energy Team for a highly respected, multi-disciplinary engineering firm. This role is focused on comprehensive energy efficiency, decarbonization, and renewable energy consultancy. The successful candidate will take a lead role on a variety of cutting-edge electrification and decarbonization projects, developing them from initial feasibility stages all the way through design and construction, while mentoring junior staff and interfacing directly with clients.

Mandatory Qualifications & Education
  • Experience: 4 to 8 years of relevant experience in mechanical building systems and energy consulting.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred) or a related engineering discipline.

  • Licensure: A New York State Professional Engineer (PE) license is a major plus but not strictly mandatory.

Desired Skillsets
  • Technical Proficiencies: Well-rounded, deep expertise in HVAC and hydronic system design. Strong familiarity with building energy efficiency and decarbonization strategies.

  • Software Expertise: Proficient in utilizing Revit or AutoCAD for production, drafting, and design review.

  • Specialized Knowledge: Prior experience designing geothermal or district energy systems is highly preferred.

  • Soft Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to mentor junior engineers and explain complex technical/cost-benefit analysis clearly to clients.

Position Requirements & Duties
  • Lead System Design: Head the design of building HVAC systems and district energy systems for new construction, deep renovations, and design-build projects.

  • Field Operations: Perform field investigations to thoroughly document existing building conditions.

  • Engineering Calculations: Perform rigorous equipment selection and foundational calculations for design integrity, ensuring strict compliance with applicable codes, standards, and utility guidelines.

  • Team Mentorship: Supervise and collaborate with junior engineers to develop, refine, and review project drawings and documentation.

  • Client Consultation: Interact directly with clients by conducting detailed design option analyses and cost-benefit comparisons, effectively communicating results to guide their decision-making process.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 per year (Final salary offered will be influenced by the candidate's relevant experience, education, and specific work location).
